A $1000 scholarship is awarded each year by the New York State ID/DD Nurses Association to encourage LPNs and other staff working in the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities to explore or remain in the field of Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Nursing.  

An eligible applicant is:

  1. An LPN or other non-nurse staff member who is currently working or has previously worked in the intellectual/developmental disabilities field, and
  2. Is currently matriculated in an accredited basic RN program, and
  3. Is a New York State Resident, and
  4. Intends to work as an ID/DD RN in New York State upon graduation.

Winner for 2020 is Olivia Robinson, Nursing Assistant, Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, New York. Congratulations, Olivia!

Kathleen Keating, RN, MSN, CNP, nursing consultant and former Director of Nursing and Health Services, OPWDD. Kathy is described as “The Queen of Mentors” for her “invaluable constant support and resource, for decades,  for all nurses in our field”. She has also been lauded for elevating the profession of nursing within OPWDD.

Karen Bazan was chosen as the 2017 winner among many worthy candidates.  Attendees at the presentation ceremony included: Jim Bazan, Karen's Husband; Jane Jaskowiak, her Mother;  Bob Lusiak, Karen's brother-in-law; Denise Menento, Friend; Pat Knuth, Executive Director ARC Otsego; and Todd Hansen, Chief Operating Officer ARC Otsego.
